Johnny Stimson
Life isn’t about simply taking risks. It’s really about choosing the right risk. You could say that pop singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Johnny Stimson chose rather wisely.
After landing high-profile syncs on The Vampire Diaries and Trophy Wife and building a growing following, the Dallas native urged a European booking agent to get him a show in London. He had a gut feeling something would happen in the wake of it, so he went across the pond for the gig. The next day, he got a rather unexpected, yet extremely welcome call.
“Someone at the show knew Elton John, told him about my music, and he called me the next morning,” he smiles. “In the following months, I signed a deal with Rocket Records in the UK, and we’ve built this incredible partnership. I recognized the importance of taking risks, because it was the only way I would’ve been able to do this.”
The main reason is he comes out of the gate with a singular sound. Drawing from influences as diverse as The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Sam Cooke, and Justin Timberlake. He brings a distinct sense of soul to pop music—not only singing but playing piano, guitar, and bass. The music can be funky one minute and then soulful the next, while always maintaining an irresistibility.
The single “Holding On” illuminated that. In 2015, it soundtracked a riveting ad spot for BUPAin the UK. As a result, it became the most Shazam’ed song by an unsigned artist in the UK, while hitting Top 40 on the country’s iTunes. Its stirring and stark piano gives way to a soulful and dynamic performance from Johnny that instantly engages.
That honesty is really starting to resonate. His song, “So. Good.” recently topped the Spotify Viral 50 Chart in ten countries. He has also seen four tracks rise to the top of Hype Machine’s Pop Chart, while receiving acclaim from Idolator, Refinery29, MTV Buzzworthy, Nylon, GRAMMY.com, Baeble Music, and more.
Following tours with SoMo and Tori Kelly, Stimson released his single "Bright Side" which has accumulated over three million plays on Spotify. Most recently, Stimson released his single "Honeymoon," as the first release of the upcoming EP, "Today."
